Dear Children,
As we live on this earth, we will face many challenges in life. Sometimes, these challenges may seem too difficult for us to overcome, and we may feel sad, discouraged, or even afraid. But the Bible reminds us to “be of good cheer” and tells us why we can have courage and hope even when we face difficult times.
John 16:33b, In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.
Jesus tells us that while we are living in this world, we will face challenges and troubles as Christians. These difficulties are unavoidable. However, Jesus tells us to “be of good cheer,” which means to have courage and joy even when things are difficult.
Why can we be of good cheer? Because Jesus Himself has overcome the world!
Jesus faced many challenges and much persecution during His time on earth. People insulted Him, rejected Him, and even tried to stone Him. He also experienced betrayal from Judas Iscariot. Eventually, Jesus suffered and died on the cross for our sins.
But Jesus overcame everything, including sin and death. On the third day, He rose again from the dead so that we could be saved from our sins. Today, He is in heaven interceding for us as our great High Priest.
We too will face different kinds of adversity in our lives. But we can overcome these difficulties—not because we are strong enough on our own, but because we have the strength of the One who has overcome the world: our Lord Jesus Christ.
So, let us be comforted by this wonderful truth and seek God for strength day after day. Remember that Jesus has already overcome the world.
