Proverbs 11:3
“…it speaks of two groups of people…”
Proverbs 11:3, The integrity of the upright shall guide them: but the perverseness of transgressors shall destroy them.
Proverbs in the Bible were often written in short statements, and oftentimes in two statements. Sometimes, the two statements were in contrast to one another, to describe two differing persons, ways, outcomes, etc. Like in this case, we see the word “but” is used.
Here, it speaks of two groups of people, righteous and unrighteous. The believers are to be righteous, and to uphold truth and honesty. And as they live according to the Bible, they would be guided in the path of righteousness. In contrast, “but” the transgressors, wicked and unrighteous, are crooked or dishonest in their ways, which is the meaning of perverseness. Such people will be destroyed.
Dear children, sometimes you may think, “Why are the wicked and transgressors prospering even though they do evil deeds? And why are the righteous and honest believers facing trials, struggles and afflictions in spite of them being truthful and faithful?” Well, one day, when everyone stands before God, He will judge us according to our deeds. The faithful believers will be rewarded for their uprightness, while the wicked unbelievers will be judged for their evil ways, and most importantly, rejection of the gospel!
