Proverbs 4:27
“…but do the right things as well…”
Proverbs 4:23a, Turn not to the right hand nor to the left.
The believer must not only think and say the right things, but do the right things as well. While it is true that one’s actions stem from his or her heart and mind, however, here it is a reminder that one should be vigilant about what he or she does. Evil and sinful actions will result in negative outcomes, and there are serious consequences. The believer must be determined to stay on the path of righteousness in accordance with God's Word. The phrase “right or left hand” speaks of ways that deviate from His straight, true and godly path.
Dear children, the world will entice us to go against or do the opposite of what God has commanded us to do. So, we must always ask ourselves, “Is this thing I am about to do, pleasing and acceptable to God and His Word? Will He approve of this thing?” If it is not, then we should turn not to the right hand nor to the left.
