Proverbs 21:23
“…because of the things we say…”
Proverbs 21:23, Whosoever keepeth his mouth and his tongue keepeth his soul from troubles.
Have you ever gotten yourself into trouble? Most certainly you have! Very often, we get into trouble because of the things we say. When we are careless of the things we say, or speak too quickly without thinking through the consequences of our words, we get ourselves into trouble. We can lose our friends. We can say things that are not true. We can even land ourselves into legal issues like those people who lie to the authorities or in court. As such, we hurt ourselves.
Dear children, we are wise when we keepeth or guard our mouths and tongues. It does not mean that we do not speak at all. But it means to control, consider and beware of what we should and should not speak. We only want to speak words that are truthful, encouraging and edifying, not words that are untrue, discouraging and hurtful. When we do that, we will protect not only ourselves but also others from being hurt.
