Proverbs 17:4
“…what we listen to will affect…”
Proverbs 17:4, A wicked doer giveth heed to false lips; and a liar giveth ear to a naughty tongue.
We must be careful what we listen to because of how it will affect us. Words from evil sources can have a corrupting influence on us, and shape our lives. Biblical proverbs are words of wisdom. Here, it teaches us that what we listen to will affect what we do and say.
It affects what we do — When we listen to false lips or lies like false allegations and accusations, we will respond by retaliating with anger and actions that hurt others or stir up trouble. When we listen to ungodly music or evil speech, we will respond by behaving like the people or things we hear.
It affects what we say — When we listen to gossip, we will respond by being gossipers. When we listen to lies, we will respond by lying. When we listen to rumours, we will respond by spreading the rumours.
Dear children, therefore, we must be wise! Be careful little ears what you hear!
