Proverbs 4:23
“…we cannot erase what we see…”
Proverbs 4:23, Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.
We used to sing the chorus, “Be careful little eyes what you see.” Why is it important for us to be careful of what we see? Our eyes are like a computer that takes in whatever they see. But the great difference is that we cannot erase what we see like the way we press the “delete” button on the computer. Everything we see will be stored up in our hearts, and from time to time, we will be reminded of those sinful scenes that will tempt us.
They will influence our lives. Take a moment and consider the movies we watch, and the pictures we see. We cannot forget about them, and they are deeply embedded in our hearts and minds. Subsequently, they will affect the way we think, speak and live. Soon, we will behave like the people we see in those movies and pictures.
Dear children, that is why it is wise to guard what we see carefully because they will eventually affect and influence our hearts and lives. So, we must only focus on things that are righteous, pure and pleasing to God, and not dwell on things that are sinful. The only way we can do that is to use the Bible as the yardstick or measurement to gauge everything we see whether they are good or bad.
