Psalm 23:6
“…until it reached the shepherd’s fold or pasture…”
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever (Psalm 23:6).
In the preceding lessons, we have learnt that the sheep has a shepherd, therefore, it shall not want, it shall not lack rest, it shall not lack life, it shall not lack guidance, and it shall not lack provision. With all these blessings, surely goodness and mercy shall follow it all the days of its life. Usually, the sheep would be led and guided through the mountains and valleys, all the way until it reached the shepherd’s fold or pasture, a place of rest and bliss.
Dear children, consider our lives, from our infancy, youth, adulthood, old age and eventually death. We have the Great Shepherd, Jesus Christ, leading, guiding, protecting and providing for all our needs (emotional, physical and spiritual), all the way until we reach our heavenly home, the house of the LORD, where we will find heavenly rest and bliss. Isn’t that wonderful? That is why we can say like the Psalmist, surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, until eternity!
