Psalm 23:3a
“…it cannot bring itself back to safety…”
He resoreth my soul (Psalm 23:3a)
The word soul can be translated as life. And the phrase, restoreth my soul, can mean “bring me to repentance.” Oftentimes, when the sheep lies down to sleep after a meal, it may just rest on the ground nearby a hole, or on a slope. Then it rolls over and falls into the hole or slips down the slope. On its own, it cannot bring itself back to safety. It does not know nor have the ability to deliver itself. It needs the help of the shepherd to rescue it, and bring it back to safety.
Dear friend, as believers, oftentimes, we are just like the sheep. We easily fall into temptation and sin. Based on our own strength, we cannot repent, and we just remain in our sins. When we live in sin, our spirit is grieved and troubled, but we cannot do anything to save ourselves. We need Jesus our Shepherd to save and deliver us, and cause us to repent from our sins, through His Word and His Spirit. Only then, will our souls be restored!
