Psalm 23:1a
“…willing to give his life for his sheep…”
The LORD is my shepherd (Psalm 23:1a)
Today, we may not appreciate the analogy of a shepherd the way the people in those days did or even in places where pasturing is practiced. The shepherd will take care, guide, protect, provide, spend time with, and even be willing to give his life for his sheep. Who is the Shepherd? The Lord Jesus Christ! Who are the sheep? The believers!
But it is important to note that it is not good enough to know that the Lord Jesus Christ is only a shepherd, or the shepherd, but “my shepherd.” In other words, we must believe and embrace Jesus as our personal Lord and Saviour.
Dear children, is Jesus your personal Lord and Saviour? If He is, then you have been blessed with the promise that Jesus said, “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand (John 10:27-28).” Based on this promise;
- The sheep hears the Shepherd’s voice through His Word
- The sheep is known by his Shepherd
- The sheep follows his Shepherd’s leading
- The sheep has eternal life
- The sheep’s salvation will never be lost
