Proverbs 15:17
“…there is something even more important than that…”
Proverbs 15:17, Better is a dinner of herbs where love is, than a stalled ox and hared therewith.
The word herbs means vegetables, and the word stalled ox means fattened cattle. In those days, the rich would eat sumptuous meals like meat, and the poor would eat only vegetables. While it is nice to have a meal of good food, there is something even more important than that. It is the love, warmth and fellowship that the family shares around the table.
Dear children, even if your family gets to eat the best steak every day, if there is no love and only hatred for one another, it is so miserable. Life in a home that has lots of love, but lacks money, is better than life in a home where there is hate. Learn to cherish the love, warmth and fellowship in the family!
