Proverbs 22:6
“…your parents are a blessing from God…”
Proverbs 22:6, Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.
Have you been angry with your parents for their persistent reminder, or constant nagging, or insistence in telling you what to do and not to do? You must remember that your parents are a blessing from God, and they have been given the responsibility to bring you up in the ways of the Lord.
The training — They have to dedicate all their time, effort and resources to train you. The way to do that is to teach, guide, counsel, and if necessary, discipline you, in accordance with the Bible.
The way — The phrase “in the way he should go” implies that there is a right way you ought to live and behave. When you are doing things that are not right or moving in the wrong direction, they have to direct you back to the correct path.
The remembrance — Even when you have grown older, graduated, working and married, you must not forget all the wonderful lessons that your parents have taught you.
The result — This instruction is given to your parents and you by God, therefore, there is a blessed promise that you will “depart from it,” which means to turn away, rebel or reject. The obedient child who stays faithful to the instruction is blessed, but the disobedient child who departs from it will face serious consequences and land himself or herself in trouble.
