Malachi 3:8
“…it is like robbing God…”
~3 min read
Dear Children,
Are you familiar with the Eighth Commandment, “Thou shalt not steal,” from the Ten Commandments given to Moses? We all know that stealing is wrong, and we should not take things that belong to others. But did you know that it is also possible to steal from God?
Is there anything that we have been keeping for ourselves that actually belongs to Him?
Let us look at this verse: Malachi 3:8, Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings.
This verse teaches us that when we do not give our tithes and offerings, it is like robbing God. But how can that be?
To understand this, we need to remember that God owns everything in the world. The Bible says, “The earth is the LORD'S, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein” (Psalm 24:1).
This means that nothing truly belongs to us. Everything we have comes from God, and He has given us the responsibility to take care of it.
In a way, everything we have is like something borrowed from God. He allows us to use it, but it still belongs to Him. Think about this: if you lend your toy to a friend, would you expect to get it back? Of course! If your friend keeps it and never returns it, that would be stealing, and it breaks the Eighth Commandment.
In the same way, when we do not give back to God through our tithes and offerings, we are keeping what belongs to Him.
So, do you remember to give your tithes and offerings when you come to Sunday School? Let us learn to gladly give back a portion of the many blessings that God has given to us.
