Hebrews 3:1
“…a very special job…”
~2 min read
Dear Children,
Do you know what is a priest? In the time of Moses, priests are the people who give sacrifice to God. They will kill the animals and burn them as an offering to God for their sin. This is a very special job that only people who are chosen by God can do. The priests are also in charge of communicating to God on behalf of the people.
So do we need a priest in our church to sacrifice animals?
The answer is definitely no because we have Jesus as our Great High Priest. So let us look at Hebrews 3:1, Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus.
So, what makes Jesus our High Priest?
Firstly, instead of sacrificing animals, He sacrificed Himself for our sin. Because He is a perfect human, His sacrifice is enough to cleanse us of our sin. In comparison, the priests in the time of Moses had to regularly sacrifice animals because they are not perfect (Hebrews 7:27).
The second thing He has done, as our Priest, is talking to God for us like the priest back then. That is why we end our prayer by saying ‘in Jesus name’ (Hebrews 7:25).
Knowing these great things that our Lord Jesus has done for us, let us grow in our love for Him.
