When you ask the average person on the street, “What is happiness and blessing?”, some of them will tell you that to be blessed is to have a good job, earn a good salary, own a house and be financially secure. Others would tell you that to be blessed is to have good health, a loving family and good friends. Yet others would tell you that to be blessed is to be free from worries and anxieties. If you notice, they all have one thing in common. They are all temporal. Most certainly, true happiness and blessings cannot be found in things temporal.
What does it mean to be blessed? The biblical word, blessed, is sometimes translated as being happy, but most certainly, it is more than just being happy. To understand the meaning of the word blessed, let us consider how this word 'blessed' was used in the book of Psalms.
Psalm 2:12, Blessed are all they that put their trust in him. Psalm 32:2, Blessed is the man unto whom the LORD imputeth not iniquity. Psalm 65:4, Blessed is the man whom thou choosest. Psalm 84:4, Blessed are they that dwell in thy house. Psalm 112:1, Blessed is the man that feareth the LORD, that delighteth greatly in his commandments. Psalm 118:26, Blessed be he that cometh in the name of the LORD: we have blessed you out of the house of the LORD. Interestingly, even those who are dead are called blessed, Revelation 14:13, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord.
Dear children, the blessed are people who have entered into a saving relationship with God. It is a true and permanent relationship with God by faith in Jesus Christ. This faith comes to us through hearing the Word of God. Romans 10:17, So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
Those who are blessed are instructed by His Word, walking in obedience and submission to His Word, and their lives would manifest the fruit of the Spirit. Have you entered into a saving relationship with God through faith in Jesus Christ? This is the most blessed thing a man or a woman could ever have!
