Proverbs 18:13
“…we have become impatient…”
Proverbs 18:13, He that answereth a matter before he heareth it, it is folly and shame unto him.
Today, we live in a computer world of advanced technology. Just a click of the button on the computer, and we can get a quick answer to our question. It has affected our lives in such a way that we have become impatient, and we want a “quick-fix” immediately. We have ceased to take time to listen. Even when we listen, we do not process and think through the things we hear.
Sometimes when a question is asked, we even interrupt and say what we think without listening to what the other person is saying. For example, a person may ask, “Do you know how I can invite Susan to come….” and you straightaway say, “Of course, I know! You should invite her to come to your birthday party because she is your friend!” Then the person said, “No, I am not referring to inviting her to my birthday party, but to our church’s gospel rally because she is an unbeliever.” Or another person may ask you, “I am wondering about the recent incident….” and you right-away say, “Yes, it is so sad that Peter and John are no longer friends because of the misunderstanding.” Then the person said, “No, I am referring to the fire incident in the school’s laboratory.” Can you see how foolish (folly) and embarrassed (shame) you will be?
Dear children, be wise and listen attentively to the whole matter. Think through it carefully, and if possible, you should say to the person, “Let me prayerfully consider the whole matter, and then I will answer you.” Do you interrupt? Do you jump to conclusions? Do not answer before you listen to the whole matter!
