Dear Children,
Most of us enjoy singing songs. There are songs that we sing when we are happy, and there are songs that encourage us when we are feeling sad or discouraged.
Did you know that music has been around since the very beginning of history? In the Bible, Jubal is the first recorded musician. He was known as the father of those who played the harp and organ (Genesis 4:21). Since all good things come from God, music is also a gift from Him, and He has given it to us for a purpose. One of the most important purposes of music is to praise God.
Let us look at Psalm 47:6, Sing praises to God, sing praises: sing praises unto our King, sing praises.
This verse encourages God's people to praise Him with joyful singing. It is only one of many verses in the Bible that tell us to praise and rejoice in the Lord. In fact, the Book of Psalms is filled with songs of praise to God.
The Psalms are not the only place where we find singing in the Bible. For example, after God gave Israel victory over Jabin, king of Canaan, Deborah sang a song of praise to the Lord (Judges 5). We also read about Moses and David singing praises to God for His goodness and faithfulness.
From these examples, we can see that the Bible repeatedly teaches God's people to praise Him through hymns and songs. That is one reason why we sing praises to God every Sunday in church.
However, our praise should not be limited to Sundays. Let us make it our habit to praise God every day, singing joyfully and thanking Him for all that He has done for us.
