Dear Children,
We have all had arguments before. It may be with a friend, a brother or sister, or even our parents. When we argue, we often think that we are right and the other person is wrong. But can we always trust ourselves to know who is right?
The Bible gives us the answer.
Psalm 19:7a, The law of the LORD is perfect.
This verse tells us that God’s Word is perfect. The Bible tells us what we need to know about what is right and what is wrong. Why? Because God is the Creator of everything. He made us, and therefore He has the right to tell us how we should live.
But sometimes, we think that we know better than God. We decide for ourselves what is right, even though what we think is right may be wrong in God’s eyes.
We can see this happening many times throughout the history of Israel. After Joshua died, there was a time when Israel had no king. Instead of following God’s Word, the people began doing whatever they thought was right.
The Bible tells us in Judges 21:25, Every man did that which was right in his own eyes.
When the people decided for themselves what was right, they began doing many sinful things. They worshipped idols and hurt others. God punished them because of their sin. When they repented and cried out to God, He delivered them. But sadly, they often turned back to their sinful ways again.
This teaches us an important lesson.
We should not decide what is right simply by what we think or feel. We should look to God’s Word.
So, dear children, the next time you have an argument with someone, don't simply think, “I am right!” You must stop and ask yourself, “What does the Bible say?”
If you are right according to God’s Word, continue to do what is right with humility. But if you discover that you are wrong, admit it, repent, and ask God to forgive you.
Let God’s Word—not our own feelings—be the guide for knowing what is right and wrong.
