Today, there are some people who say that the Ten Commandments are no longer applicable to us because we are saved by grace and not by the law. Indeed, it is true that we are saved by grace through faith (c.f. Ephesians 2:8) but we are still required to obey the Ten Commandments, not to be saved but because we are saved. Let us listen to the words of Jesus who testified the truth that the Ten Commandments are still applicable to us.

The Saviour kept the law perfectly - Matthew 5:17, Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. No man can keep the Ten Commandments perfectly. Only Jesus alone could and He did keep them perfectly, therefore, He came not to destroy (meaning to void or empty), but to fulfil (as He kept them perfectly). As our Lord and Saviour, Jesus had kept the law of God perfectly on our behalf.

The law is still applicable - Jesus went on to say in Matthew 5:18, For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. One day, this present heaven (the universe) and the present physical earth will be destroyed because they have been tainted with sin. And God will create the new heavens and the new earth where the believers will dwell with Him for all eternity. Until then, Jesus said, “not one jot or one tittle” which means even the smallest letter of the Hebrew alphabet (jot) or the Greek alphabet (tittle) shall disappear or vanish from the law or the Ten Commandments, till everything be accomplished.

Dear children, today, the Ten Commandments are still applicable to us, and we seek to keep them not to be saved because no man can be saved by keeping them perfectly. Only Jesus can! We seek to keep them because we are saved, and the Ten Commandments regulate the way we should live our lives, not to sin against God but to His glory of His precious name.
