But rejoiceth in the truth (1 Corinthians 13:6b)
The word but is the contrast; instead of rejoicing in iniquity, we rejoice in the truth. Love is able to distinguish between right and wrong, righteousness and unrighteousness. In other words, love is discerning!
What is truth? Truth is anything that is in accordance with the Word of God, or anything that reflects the will and character of God. And it is not based on our feelings, emotions or what the majority thinks.
Dear children, love rejoiceth in the truth means you have to make a commitment to speak the truth. Love cannot tolerate wrong teaching, and it will cause you to take a stand for the truth against falsehood. Love cannot endure lies and deceptions. Love will cause you to speak the truth of the gospel even though you may be rejected and scorned at. For example, when your unbelieving friend says, “Well, it doesn’t matter what I believe in. Every religion teaches a way to salvation. I can pick and choose any religion I want, and I will still be in heaven.” You will tell them that it is not true. For there is only one way to salvation, and only Jesus can save them!
