called the moral law because they apply to all man
you and i know how important it is to learn to share. ⁃ but some things are never meant to be shared these things are to be kept exclusive.. there are things God would never share. he has demonstrated that he is the only God. he has every right to claim our worship. we must never share…
“before me” does not mean you have can God first, and then all the other gods. it means “in my presence”. and God is all present…
it is a radical choice. it is all or nothing. you either choose God or you don’t.
you think “who would worship a statue?” who would box down to…? it sounds so primitive. but the truth is that we do worship other gods…
if we … we have violated this commandment.
one of the most common other gods is ourself. self is the most common idol in the world today. all of us know that pride is the very first sin that brought down lucifer. when we are proud of…
perhaps you have started off well, but somewhere along the way you are being drawn away by the temptation to follow other gods. one classic example was solomon…
he was the most powerful king, wealthiest king,
if God asked you whatever you want i will give you… whatever be your answer, that would reveal what god you are serving.
if Solomon served pleasure, power, etc. he would’ve asked for… but solomon served God so he asked for wisdom. he started off well! he was godly. he was a man of prayer.
he never intended to break this command!
he spent 7 years to build the temple. but when he built his own house, he took double the time. he didn’t ask for power, but in time to come… he didn’t ask for women, yet in time to come he had 700 wives… even tho God had said…
but solomon repented. he wrote in ecclesiastes, vanity of vanities, all is vanity.
if it can happen to solomon, it can also happen to any one of us, if we are not careful.
it is all or nothing.
⁃ TIMESTAMP: HOW TO OBEY THE TEN COMMANDMENTS? LOVE.
do you know why Jesus summarised the ten commandments with the word “love”? if u and i were to obey the commandments because wot fear of the consequences then we would come under condemnation to the Lord. because of guilt? then it would be an attempt to atone for our sins. for self glory? then we would be proud that we are better than others. the only right way that we can obey the ten commandments, is through LOVE.
what do we really love? how do we spend our money and time? what do we get excited about? a false god can be anything we focus on at the exclusion of God. a sport a hobby an appetite for the finer things in life. even a ministry in the church. we are allowed to enjoy all these good things. but we must never let them replace our God as the object of our affections. we just never let our love for the blessings replace our love for Him.
what do we trust? who do we turn to in times of trouble? God can use all these things to care and provide for us, but our ultimate confidence must be in Him alone.
God says to us personally, as in the use of the word singular, “THOU”. thou shalt have no other gods
the reason why we can’t recognise our false gods is not because we don’t have any, but because we have too many.
