YT Description/Post
📣 You might’ve forgotten the promise you made to serve God, but God hasn’t. 🤔
After we accept the gift of salvation by faith in Jesus Christ, many Christians make special promises to serve Him with the rest of their lives. These particular vows arise out of all sorts of circumstances, and most of the time we make them sincerely. The problem is, we don’t always keep our promises. Sometimes we forget about our promises; sometimes we backslide. But does God forget about our promises?
In this sermon, Ps Paul unpacks how Joshua prompted the Israelites to carefully make a decision to serve the Lord, just as he had made that decision himself. What kind of decision does God want you to make for Him? How can you follow through with our decision? Where might God bring you when you forget your decision or fail to uphold it? Tune in to discover what God might be saying to you today, in response to your success or failure to keep your vows to Him.

Highlights
PLANNED OUTLINE:
- after the decision for Christ, the next decision is to serve him.
- but somewhere along the way u forget your decision
- what happens?
- where is your shechem?
- Joshua said u are witnesses against yourself today…
maybe add:
- no complacency, neutrality, halfway house. either for or against
- you can observe how emphatic.
- personal decision
every time we come to worship we are coming before the presence of God. we must always examine the condition of our hearts when we come to worship. we must always desire to seek the presence of the almighty God
each time we remember we are comforted because we are not alone
God has empowered us. sustained us
v3-13. notice how many times God says “I”
- pastor lists a whole bunch of actions God says he took
the moment we think we are responsible for our successes(?) we are in deep trouble. we must give all glory to God. God is the one
- pastor lists a series of phrases starting with “if not for the mercies of God… XYZ”
if not for the mercies of God we would not be what we are today.
instead of being proud, we should be humble
the main purpose in recounting history is to fear the Lord and serve Him
- pastor defines the fear of the Lord
God is watching every moment and weighing every thought word and actions
we know that God is of such infinite power and majesty that we fear to forfeit his goodness
many people today have no problem with outward obedience … but within their hearts they may be living in sin…
- serious point here^
God must be the only master of our lives. is god the only matter of your life?
in verse 15, joshua puts the entire matter to their choice.
elijah gave a similar challenge to the people
sadly there will always be people sitting on the fence
there is no neutrality of complacency in the kingdom of god
there’s no halfway house
there is a sense of urgency.
today make this decision are you going to follow the lord?
as a leader he had to me the first to set an example for them to follow so he resolved before them.. as for me and my house we will serve lord
you can observe how emphatic he has
if you are just following the majority then your decision is meaningless
“i don’t know about you.. some of you want to serve other gods, but i am confident. as for me house we will serve the lord.”
- pastor was paraphrasing joshua
it is a personal decision
you cannot serve the lord if you serve other god
he is jealous and will be no means allow…
you have said it for yourself that you will serve the Lord
one day we will be judged for our profession
whether we have been true or false to the lord
perhaps you made a decision for the lord. but somewhere along the line you… drew your attention. your heart grew cold. then the lord brought you to a point to remind you of his faithfulness
