Proverbs 12:22

Lying lips are abomination to the LORD: but they that deal truly are his delight. (Proverbs 12:22)
The dictionary explains the meaning for the word abomination as “anything greatly disliked and abhorred, or treated with disgust.” When the Bible says, abomination to the LORD, is it not a frightening thought to know that the Almighty God is disgusted about certain actions or behaviours? What fills God with such great dislike and disgust? Lying lips!
Susan was not happy with Mary because she was not invited to the latter’s birthday party. So, she came up with a wicked idea to falsely accuse Mary of stealing the money that the school had collected from the book fair. Susan lied to the teacher saying that she saw Mary stealing the money.
Poor Mary, nobody believed her. Her parents, her teacher and all her classmates really thought she was a thief. Finally, Susan told the truth, that the money was not stolen but placed in one of the cupboards. But it was too late!
Mary’s parents were so disappointed with her that they transferred her to another school. From then onwards, the teacher and all the classmates no longer believed in Susan even though she spoke the truth.
Dear children, lies hurt people. They make people think wrongly and then cause people to do wrong things which will bring them much trouble. But there is a greater fear than just all these consequences and that is, lying lips are abomination to the LORD. God hates lies! We must not lie, but rather we must always speak the truth because we fear God more than men and trouble. God is pleased with those who are truthful and honest.
