Obedience Is Better Than Sacrifice

Dear Children,

Do you give presents to your parents on their birthdays? Our parents feel very happy when we give them gifts because it shows our love and appreciation for all the care they give us.

But what if we are often naughty and disobey them? Will they still be happy, even if we give them the best gift in the world? Every parent would rather have an obedient child than one who disobeys but keeps giving gifts.

Our Heavenly Father is the same. He desires obedient children more than anything else.

We can learn this from the Bible in the book of Samuel: 1 Samuel 15:22, And Samuel said, Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.

In those days, God’s people often disobeyed Him, yet they continued to offer sacrifices. But God was not pleased. Through the prophet Samuel, He reminded them that obedience is far more important than any offering.

So, dear children, let us not be disobedient. Instead, let us listen to and obey our loving Heavenly Father, who cares for us so deeply.
