John 16:32-33
In V32, Jesus says that there will come a time when every man is “scattered” to their own places. This feeling of isolation can reflect the weight of stress and expectations during exam period, taking away our joy and confidence in exchange for despair and dourness. However, Jesus reminds us at the end of V32 that “[we] are not alone, because the Father is with [us]”. This is corroborated in V33, where we are told to “be of good cheer” because God has overcome the world, and hence, any tribulations that might arise in our lives, whether it be in school or in our social lives. Just like how in a solar eclipse, when the moon covers the Sun, it can seem like everything is in darkness and that there is no hope. However, the Sun is still there, just like how God will always be with us every step of the way. When the moon passes, when the trials and tribulations are over, God’s warmth will flood over us once more, and what seemed to be insurmountable trials will appear minute in the presence of the almighty God in whom we might be able to find peace.
