YPG 2007 Spring Camp
Camp Report
Praise and thank God for a blessed YPG Camp for 2007! This year the camp was held at Lyrebird Park in Yellingbo from 23 – 27 September 2007. The date was moved from its usual winter slot in previous years to spring to accommodate international students and the younger ones who are considering stepping up to the YPG in 2008. The theme for this year was “Finding Meaning in Your Life”, with the central verse being Colossians 3:9-10 – “Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds; And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him”.
We thank our Lord for the 40 youth who had the opportunity to attend the camp, either on a full time or part time basis. Each camper was placed into one of four groups, whom they would remain with for the duration of the camp for various duties and activities.
Our speaker this year was Rev Errol Stone from Faith Presbyterian Church in Perth. We thank God for his providence in allowing Rev Stone given that only two months notice was provided to prepare the messages. Five messages were delivered by Rev Stone this year: - God’s Creation - Man’s Salvation - Victory Over Sin - Assurance of Salvation - Sanctification of Life
The messages helped the youth: remind them of the importance of proper teaching of God’s Word in our churches today; to reinforce the need for us to have an intimate relationship with God; know the consequences of sin and the need for salvation as a result; relate to the importance of separating ourselves from the world and the never ending struggle we have to remain sanctified; remind them of the importance of their service for God. The messages were all recorded and are available for download from the church website.
Each day began with morning devotions in theassigned groups followed by a time of personal devotion and reflection, and ended with dormitory prayers before bed. Thank God for the nice weather that we had for the duration of the camp, and even for the opportunity to have a camp fire even though it did rain on that day, the skies cleared up in time for us to gather around the camp fire to sing praises unto our Lord.
We also thank God for the younger ones who attended the camp for the first time, this camp was the first in which those who are not currently in the YPG (but will consider making the transition in the coming years) were given the chance to have a sneak peak at what we do as a fellowship group. Praise the Lord that they were able to fit in and integrate well with the rest of the YPG, and we trust that they will make a smooth transition into the YPG in the coming years.
Overall, praise and thanks be to our Lord for a truly blessed camp in 2007, and the time of fellowship and learning that we had over the duration of the camp. Given the success of the camp this year, the 2008 YPG camp will most likely be held again in the spring timeslot, during the third term holidays.
We pray that we will see the youth at camp again in 2008!
