This year is the 20th Anniversary of the YPG. It has been 20 years since the very first YPG meeting in 1987. God indeed has been great and bless the youth with much over the many years of the Youth Group’s existance.
YPG Theme – “Having a Heart for God”
“Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth not rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through or steal; For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” ~ Matthew 6:19-21
In a time of many distractions, it’s easy to get caught up with the things of the world. Mobile phones, ipods, computers. We set our hearts on these material things because we believe that they will help us to gain money, happiness and fame. We think of the here and now- how do I get what I want and what do I need to do to get them.
The trouble is, we often forget the thing that we should really be focusing on.
We set our hearts on the things of this world, believing that they will bring us all our hearts desires. We put all our energy into building up our treasures here on Earth; but to what end? The physical treasures we acquire will remain here long after we are gone. The treasures that we set up in heaven however, will remain for eternity. Our hearts should therefore be focused on the things above. By setting our heart on God, we are laying up our treasures in heaven and choosing to use our lives to honour and bring glory to His name.
So, the question we need to ask ourselves is; where do your treasures lie? More specifically, where have you chosen to place your heart? Is it set on the things here on earth or in heaven above?
The theme for the YPG this year focuses on these questions- prompting the youth to examine their lives and the things that motivate them. As the year continues, we pray that all youth will grow in spiritual understanding and make the decision to “Have a heart for God”.
